Academic leagues are an important tool for disseminating the fundamental axis of education in Brazil: teaching, research and extension. However, during their studies, academics find moments that demand high maturity and are related to the formation of a new specialist. Therefore, professional leagues are an important tool for education and training. Objective: Experience report of medical school students at the University of Uberaba (UNIUBE) hematology and hemotherapy binders. Materials and methods: Experience report and descriptive and qualitative study through a narrative review of the literature in an electronic database (Scielo, Pubmed and Latindex). Results: Academic leagues are an important tool used in academic training to motivate and encourage students to seek knowledge in order to achieve better educational results. In addition, leagues should be seen as a joint activity of students and teachers, offering the possibility of a better sense of teamwork and development, not only personally, but also professionally. Thanks to the participation of members of the Hematology and Hemotherapy League, all participants were able to have a better contact with related areas and practices during the period of 2019 and 2020. With that, it became evident that participation in academic leagues is a unique exponent of training academic, oportunities situations where most of the time in graduation it was impossible to experience what is important to choose or not thematic areas and for extreme personal and professional construction. Discussion: Higher education in Brazil is a complex, diversified and continuous system of change and development that aims to transform society through knowledge of human potential. In this context, academic leagues are non-profit organizations that allow students to participade of activities in specific areas of didact interest, scientific, cultural and social nature, in order to encourage learning and personal development under the guidance of a teacher. This teaching method allows for more dynamic learning and early contact with specific areas of knowledge. For medical students, academic leagues are often of fundamental importance in choosing a field of study during an internship. In addition, today's leagues aim to bring the student closer to the practice of health, achieve discretion in the academy, offer a variety of scenarios, train for health, learn to act and take care of others. Conclusion: The leagues are an important tool for the student's personal and professional development. However, these must be rooted in the fundamentals of teaching, research and extension to enable a knowledge generation without forgetting the importance of curricular matrices. Finally, it is an important tool for the formation of people who articulate the knowledge provid by teachers and guide in carrying out the activities of the leagues.
